Job Description:

Graduate Pharmacy Intern position at CVS Health focused on transforming health care for customers. This role helps people navigate the health care system by improving access, lowering costs and being a trusted partner. The intern will apply didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice to become ready for a Pharmacist role, working under the direction of a preceptor and District Leader to complete comprehensive training within 120 days of graduation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Apply didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice
  • Complete comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation
  • Deepen understanding of patient safety and error prevention
  • Quality assurance drug utilization review (DUR)
  • Pharmacy professional standards such as corresponding responsibility and red flag detection
  • Assist pharmacy team to ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly
  • Ensure patients' prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately
  • Provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations
  • Operate as part of pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Demonstrate empathy and genuine care in customer and colleague interactions
  • Contribute to safe and inclusive culture
  • Support management, oversight, and operations within the pharmacy
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy
  • Creating heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients
  • Keeping patients healthy by offering immunizations and other services
  • Demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems
  • Offering to counsel, fielding medical questions, and soliciting information on patient's medical history
  • Taking telephonic prescriptions from the prescriber
  • Calling prescriber to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes
  • Maintaining self-awareness and providing in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring
  • Completing basic inventory activities
  • Contributing to high-performing team

  • Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs
  • Traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
  • Understanding and complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws
  • Delivering additional patient health care services (immunizations, point-of-care testing)
  • Supporting immunizations including preparing and administering vaccines
  • Educating patients about vaccines and answering questions
  • Monitoring for and responding to adverse reactions
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information

Requirements:

  • PharmD graduate of a U.S. accredited program prior to beginning the Post-Graduate Training Program at CVS Health
  • Ability to obtain required pharmacist licensure within the required timeframe, per state guidelines
  • Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time
  • Ability to pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs
  • Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy, ensuring patient safety
  • Actively look for ways to help people, and do so in a friendly manner

Nice to have:

  • 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • Ability to become immunization certified
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
