Job Description

Directs, manages and oversees Pharmacy assign programs, activities and operations. Ensures adherence to established policies and procedures. Prepares and presents in-service educational programs to medical and pharmacy staff. Patient care assignment may include: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepares and presents in-service educational programs to medical and pharmacy staff
  • Patient care assignment may include: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups
  • Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments
  • encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure continued quality of care
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency of department programs and activities
  • identifies and recommends areas of improvement
  • Assist in coordinating the annual hospital drug bids

  • Develop, implement and monitor clinical pharmacy programs to include Medication Usage Evaluation (MUE) programs
  • Prepare monographs for drugs going the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • Coordinate clinical clerkship rotations for pharmacy students
  • Manage formulary and non-formulary drug approvals and criteria enforcement
  • Prepare, publish and distribute Pharmacy and Therapeutics newsletter
  • Develop and submit proposals and articles
  • conduct presentations at educational and research meetings
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'

Requirements

  • Program Graduate
  • Accredited College of Pharmacy
  • 5 years directly related experience
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • Pharmacist License in New Mexico
