A Pharmacy Concierge Technician is a mid-level position in the pharmacy with responsibilities both in the pharmacy and within the hospital. This team of technicians coordinates between hospital units and the pharmacy to ensure patient discharge medications are received, processed, and any issues resolved prior to the patient's discharge from the hospital. A candidate with strong communication, problem-solving skills, and retail/community pharmacy experience would be a good fit for this role.
Job Responsibility:
Collaborates with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescription billing information, &/or prescriptions
Answers inbound telephone calls and triages calls to appropriate staff
Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system
Enters all necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating patient’s prescriptions
Supports all Concierge Service related activities from prescription intake to bedside delivery at time of patient discharge
Complies with all established regulatory and organizational policies and procedures
Participates in program marketing and promotional campaigns
Assists in establishing policies and procedures specific to the Concierge Services Program including
indigent drug program, Patient Assistance Programs, and Pharmacy exception processes
Serves as primary Ambulatory Pharmacy resource to facilitate access and resolve all required discharge medication related issues
Prepares inventory reports for pharmacist review to purchase
Submits, receives, and places inventory in stock by utilizing knowledge of order placement, receiving, and merchandising
Provides follow-up to patients and family for pharmaceutical needs and/or additional eligibility information to ensure on-going medication access
Works with appropriate departments and internal patient care team members regarding patients who have limited financial resources for prescription medication and collaborates as required to create medication access to support discharge preparations
Collaborates with internal team members, insurance companies, drug manufacturers, and prescription benefit administrators to coordinate drug coverage or resolve denials
Provides education to pharmacy, and other patient discharge related departments regarding current policy and process as it pertains to the patient assistance program and pharmacy exception process
Participates in achieving clinical and business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy concierge Program
Assembles data and prepares concierge program reports
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a community-based retail or hospital outpatient pharmacy or equivalent training and experience
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to resolve customer issues quickly and creatively
Ability to prioritize, facilitate, and problem-solve multiple time-sensitive tasks to completion
Strong organizational, record-keeping, and time management skills
Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services and drug interactions

By May 2026, all pharmacy technicians are required to obtain either a Pharmacy Technician Trainee license or a Pharmacy Technician license issued by the state of Pennsylvania
