Job Description:

Provides pharmaceutical care services by dispensing medication, monitoring patients’ drug therapies, and providing consultation to medical and nursing staff; responsible for the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy.

Job Responsibility:

  • Exercises sound professional judgement in assuming responsibility for the medication use process and for patient outcomes
  • Oversees the efficient dispensing, processing, and recording of prescriptions
  • Communicates with providers to influence optimal drug therapy
  • Monitors patients’ drug therapy and provides drug information
  • Oversees and directs pharmacy technical staff
  • Monitors the medication therapy of hospitalized or ambulatory patients
  • Screens medication orders for correctness, incompatibilities, and contraindications
  • Maintains awareness of medication change information, new products, and regulations
  • Confers with and assists medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients
  • Provides medication information and pharmacokinetic dosing advice
  • Ensures that the pharmacy provides the optimal drug therapy to patients
  • Ensures compliance with legal issues and regulations
  • Exhibits courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and professionals
  • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and operational demands while maintaining quality

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in pharmacy
  • Must be currently licensed to practice in the state
  • One to two years related experience or equivalent
  • Current knowledge of pharmacological/biopharmaceutical principles and medical terminology
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services
  • Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies
  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline
  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
