The UAB Central Pharmacy manager works collaboratively with other pharmacy leaders and healthcare disciplines to provide safe and efficient medication preparation and distribution to support the acute care operations of UAB Hospital.
Job Responsibility:
Daily management of non-sterile compounding and repackaging services
Continuous optimization of medication distribution and pharmacy automation technologies
Development of lean processes to ensure efficient and timely medication preparation and delivery
Formulating strategic plans that align with hospital and departmental goals
Ensuring regulatory compliance in meeting standards for The Joint Commission, CMS, USP, and Board of Pharmacy
Ensuring appropriate chain of custody and following all applicable federal and state laws for the management of controlled substances
Performing ongoing evaluations of central pharmacy processes via the utilization of objective metrics
Human resources management and support for approximately 6-8 supervisor-level direct reports and approximately 100 pharmacist and technician indirect reports
To lead, direct and manage the activities and programs of the Department of Pharmacy
To ensure optimal clinical service
To manage human resource activities and financial targets
To act as a liaison with medical center committees and schools of pharmacy as appropriate
To promote and support research
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy
Three (3) years of related experience
Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP)
Experience with various pharmacy automation technologies (repackaging devices, medication carousels, automated dispensing cabinets)
Knowledge of USP Standards and non-sterile compounding processes
Lean systems thinking with metric-driven mentality
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines
Strong people skills and demonstrated ability/willingness to work as part of a large team
Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to have:
Completion of PGY1 and/or PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Training
Board Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
Strong track-record of leadership within an acute care hospital setting
