The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency program at Baptist Medical Center South is committed to providing residents with diverse training opportunities within an enriched clinical environment. The resident’s training will be tailored to encourage the development of both clinical and leadership skills that will produce competent and confident practitioners equipped to practice anywhere along the spectrum of opportunity that the profession of pharmacy provides whether that be pursuing a PGY-2 or advancing in clinical practice. The residency program director will work with the residents to create an individualized schedule for each resident based on interests and desired experiences. Rotations are designed to provide an evidence-based experience and are generally four to five weeks in length while longitudinal rotations are completed throughout the residency year. The resident will be required to fulfill the curriculum requirements: all Core Rotations, three (3) Elective Rotations and all Longitudinal Rotations.

Clinical nutrition support
Pharmacokinetic and renal dosing
Order verification
Sterile and non-sterile compounding
Institutional experience
One evening per week and every third weekend
Education (patient and staff)
Committee Involvement
Developing interdisciplinary relationships
Research/Project management
Major research project – Flipped Model
Medication Use Evaluation
Scholarship activities
Journal clubs, in-services, performance improvement projects, drug information questions, etc.
Student Pharmacist Precepting
Requirements:
One must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited doctor of pharmacy degree program
Be eligible for and able to obtain licensure in the state of Alabama within 90 days of beginning the program
Participate in the National Matching Service program
One must prove competence in both spoken and written English language
