The Peter Buck Fellowship Program provides multi-year postdoctoral fellowships to external postdoctoral scholars to engage in research at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). The program aims to train the next generation of scientists and museum professionals and increase the flow of new ideas into the NMNH community through full-time, resident postdoctoral fellowships.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct full-time, resident, independent research focused on utilizing NMNH collections and facilities
Be actively involved in scholarly activities of the NMNH community
Train as next generation of scientist and museum professional
Increase flow of new ideas, perspectives, and skills into NMNH community
Requirements:
Must have received PhD. or equivalent degree
All formal requirements for PhD. must be completed before start of tenure
Proven record of research accomplishment
Must write and converse fluently in English
Must not be a Smithsonian employee or contractor during fellowship
Must not hold another type of Smithsonian academic appointment during fellowship
Must be resident at an NMNH facility full time
Must be actively engaged in the NMNH community during entire tenure
Tenure must start no more than one year from award date
