Associate degree or equivalent from two-year Nuclear Medicine college or technical school required
One (1) year Nuclear Medicine PET/CT experience required
Basic life Support (BLS) required
Arizona Medical Radiologic Technologist certification (MRT) required
National Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) required
Knowledge of field related scanner use and application
Knowledge of how to transfer images from disk to magnetic media to produce transparencies
Skill in placing the patient to ensure proper and most accurate scanning
Skill in providing quality control for completeness of transparencies and scans, and monitoring and using equipment
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Job Responsibility

Performs nuclear medicine and PET/CT procedures inclusive of organ imaging and function studies
assists physician in therapeutic use of radioisotopes
Administers isotope dosage accurately following established department procedures
accurately records dosage administered
observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel
Ensures operation of nuclear medicine and/or PET/CT imaging equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, evaluating new equipment and techniques
Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and affect the desired imaging diagnostic results as specified by the physician
Maintains production and quality of images by following established standards, guidelines, and/or procedures
developing images, observing results
making necessary adjustments

Registered with NMTCB or ARRT (N)
Nuclear Medicine Technology and PET experience
Must meet all competency requirements of a Nuclear Medicine Tech I
Current BLS Provider Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT or NMTCB recognizes in Nuclear Medicine Technology
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served
Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies up to 600 pounds with assistance
May be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat and kneel in performing Diagnostic procedures
Vision and hearing for distances of at least 20 feet is necessary
Able to carry weights of up to 25 pounds while moving film jackets, supplies or equipment to work areas

Job Responsibility

Administers diagnostic and therapeutic doses under the supervision of an Authorized User
Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient
Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam
Contacts ordering physician when there are discrepancies
Correlates other test results and laboratory data with exam being performed
Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse
Operates dose calibrators, computers, lab equipment and survey meters
Verifies the correct patient by using appropriate patient identifiers and validates proof of identity
Records medical history on requisitions
Records dose information, patient data, dates, views and other pertinent information on finished exams

Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) new graduates must become registered within 3 months and will not be recognized as technologist until registered (registry eligible)

Job Responsibility

Uses gamma cameras, PET scanners and uptake probes to produce physiological functional images and quantitative data to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient’s disease
Selects and operates a wide variety of imaging equipment in an efficient manner and coordinates examinations in the most efficient order and perform exams in a sequence which minimizes the patient’s stay in the hospital
Maintains working order of the equipment and performs equipment calibrations for the assigned service
Performs the best diagnostic examination possible, including proper patient identification and correct patient positioning of each and every exam
Attends to patient’s comfort during procedures
Injects radiopharmaceuticals intravenously and/or administers them orally to patients in order to perform Nuclear Medicine examinations
Works assigned shift and must be readily available to perform on-call clinical services when emergency patient or staffing needs require evening, weekend and holiday coverage
Obtains properly completed examination consultation requests, patient’s clinical history, previous diagnosis reports, images and/or records for the radiologist to use for interpretation and diagnostic purposes
Interacts with physicians and other technical staff to provide quality, safe and efficient care for the patient
Maintains appearance of all rotational areas including hallways and any other area of the Department being used
