Job Description

The Personnel Security Assistant provides administrative and technical support to personnel security operations in compliance with security programs, policies, and requirements. Provides personnel security with an emphasis on administering personnel security program duties in the areas of position risk designation and sensitivity levels, fingerprint review, completion of initial investigation or reinvestigation requirements, investigative case review and adjudication, and processing of personnel separations.

Job Responsibility

  • Reviews Public Trust (Low, Moderate, or High Risk) and National Security investigation (Onboarding and periodic reinvestigation) requests for completeness and accuracy
  • Provides recommendations, answer questions, and provide guidance concerning personnel security processes, investigations, and policies
  • Exercises professional and courteous customer service skills
  • Applies Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and OPM Suitability adjudicative standards and criteria to analyze information
  • Assists with researching, drafting, and maintenance of the RD Suitability Desk Guide and associated training materials
  • Assists with the development and training on personnel security related topics
  • Monitors general phone line messages
  • Provides a consistency review of the Personnel Security Database daily
  • Provide a daily database exception and inconsistencies notification
  • Identifies issues and/or potential conflicts of interest
  • Completes special projects and other duties when assigned
  • Prepares and provide written reports, documents, and other materials

  • Researches and interprets Federal, state and/or local laws and regulations

  • Provides support and service to the administration of Security Programs by participating in the direction, from inception to completion of less complex security assessment investigations and rendering appropriate adjudication recommendations regarding the same.
  • Conducts, reviews, and analyzes a variety of interviews internal and external to the organization.
  • Provides support, analysis, and research into complex problems and processes relating to Personal Security.
  • Completes written reports and/or oral presentations utilizing critical thinking and analysis skills.
  • Contributes to development of new principles and concepts.
  • Advises supervisor of potentially controversial matters or those matters with far reaching implications.
  • Initiates or performs extensive FBI indices checks, arrest record checks, and the like to obtain pertinent and identifying information for the cases assigned.
  • Requests, receives, reviews, and analyzes various FBI Government files and related material for determination of an individual's potential security risk.

  • Assist Government personnel with obtaining a Government Courier Card by providing briefs & forms, obtaining required signatures on the form & card, and maintaining the Courier Card database for S3I. Report monthly to G2 Security POC regarding S3I Courier Card database
  • Proper handling of classified materials by assigning control numbers for document control of incoming/outgoing packages, verifying the proper labeling of data matches paperwork (3964), securely wrapping outgoing packages, & proper storage of classified data that is awaiting receipt by appropriate personnel
