Job Description

Butler Rose are pleased to be recruiting for a well‑established accountancy practice in Manchester for a Personal Tax Manager to lead the compliance delivery for their personal tax portfolio. This role is primarily focused on managing the preparation and review of personal tax compliance work for a varied client base, with the opportunity to support advisory projects where appropriate. You will lead a small team, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and excellent client service across self‑assessment, tax computations and HMRC engagements.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and manage all areas of personal tax compliance for a portfolio of clients
  • Review personal tax returns, tax computations and supporting working papers
  • Ensure timely submission of UK self‑assessment tax returns, benefits in kind, offshore disclosures and other compliance requirements
  • Manage client correspondence and queries effectively, including HMRC enquiries
  • Provide technical review and quality control across the personal tax team
  • Assist with more complex technical issues and escalate as necessary
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding client needs and expectations
  • Support the Partners in identifying planning opportunities where relevant
  • Provide coaching, supervision and development support to junior team members

Requirements

  • Proven experience in personal tax compliance within a UK accountancy practice
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK income tax, CGT and self‑assessment compliance
  • Confident leading compliance delivery and supervising a team
  • Experience with tax software (e.g., CCH, Taxfiler, GoSystem, Absolute etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • ATT, CTA or equivalent qualification (or working towards)
