Job Description:

Bridge Specialty Group is seeking a Personal Lines Underwriter to join our growing team in Clinton, MS! As an Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in reviewing insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate individuals and groups for insurance in support of the company’s strategic objectives.

Job Responsibility:

  • Examine such documents as application forms, inspection reports, and insurance maps to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property
  • Review company records to determine the amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks and evaluate the possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance
  • Underwrite or broker risks, ensuring that all required information is obtained, proper applications are completed, quotes and binders are confirmed in writing, policies are issued promptly and accurately, state filings (where applicable) are made, and taxes paid in accordance with appropriate state laws
  • Review, analyze and underwrite risks submitted by Producers, rate submissions for premium and terms, analyze exposures for new and renewal business, issue written indications, quotes and binders
  • use inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies
  • Ensure that coding on specific required forms is completed and utilized
  • Service and perpetuate existing business and have a keen awareness of priorities
  • Provide guidance and training to the processors and assistants, to enable them to reduce the underwriter’s clerical workload, and to develop basic underwriting and brokering skills and techniques
  • Foster and improve relationships with other departments, producers, companies, and competitors

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • 1 year of insurance experience as an assistant underwriter or processor
  • Manual dexterity, arm, and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse, and telephone 7-8 hours per day
  • Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication 7-8 hours per day
  • Vision sufficient for the use of a computer monitor
  • Ability to sit at a desk 7-8 hours per day
  • Travel Requirements: Less than 10%
