Job Description:

We are looking for a Permit Officer to join our team in Beckton. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in coordinating works across the Transport for London (TfL) highways network and ensuring full compliance with permitting standards and legislation. As a Permit Officer, you will work closely with the Hub Manager, Operations Manager, Performance Manager and operational teams to ensure all works are correctly planned, permitted and licensed in line with the TfL Permit Scheme, the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act (TMA).

Job Responsibility:

  • Processing and managing permit applications within statutory timescales
  • Coordinating permits, resolving conflicts and acting promptly on refusals or variations
  • Maintaining accurate records, trackers and compliance documentation
  • Managing fees, fines, charges and Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) in line with legislation
  • Supporting Section 74 and FPN investigations and ensuring accurate reporting
  • Assisting with Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs)
  • Reviewing and agreeing permit modification requests
  • Imposing variations and adding work comments where required

Requirements:

  • Experience in permitting within Highways, Local Authority, Civils, Telecoms or Utilities
  • Knowledge of NRSWA and TMA
  • Experience using permitting systems such as Street Manager, Causeway, London Works, Stargo or Aurora
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail, particularly with data and reporting
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Confidence using mapping software and databases
  • The ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and use initiative to solve problems
  • Self-motivation and adaptability in a fast-moving environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience with systems such as Street Works Manager, Symology or similar
  • Power BI reporting experience
  • Streetworks Coordinator Units 1a and 2a
