Job Description

Waikato After Hours Veterinary Hospital (WAVH) is a 24-hour emergency and critical care hospital, providing urgent and referral-level care to companion animals across Hamilton and the wider Waikato region. With specialist and highly experienced veterinarians onsite during the day, and a dedicated ECC team overnight, we offer genuine support, mentorship, and clinical progression in a purpose-built emergency hospital. We are seeking a permanent ECC veterinarian to join our growing team.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage a wide range of emergency and critical care cases
  • Work primarily night and weekend shifts (with flexibility depending on employment type)
  • Be supported by a skilled and approachable veterinary and nursing team
  • Have access to advanced diagnostics and monitoring equipment
  • Build strong ECC skills with real hands-on case exposure

Requirements

  • A veterinary qualification registerable in New Zealand
  • At least 2 years’ clinical experience
  • An interest in emergency and critical care (previous ECC experience welcomed but not essential)
  • Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues
  • The ability to work independently while valuing teamwork
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Sole-charge confidence is required for overnight shifts
