Job Responsibility

  • Translate system‑level and scale‑up questions into clear experimental objectives and KPIs
  • Define required datasets and operating windows
  • Ensure testing generates reliable, traceable, and decision‑ready performance evidence
  • Process and structure KPI‑based datasets with statistical rigor
  • Identify trends and operational limits
  • Evaluate thermal or transport constraints
  • Quantify uncertainty to deliver robust insights from experimental results
  • Compare model predictions with experimental outcomes
  • Identify calibration gaps and model assumptions needing refinement
  • Diagnose deviations
  • Propose targeted improvements
  • Contribute to standardized validation workflows
  • Work closely with Process Development and Technology teams to align KPIs, test plans, and interpretations
  • Ensure clear technical communication
  • Maintain well‑structured documentation

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field
  • Strong understanding of adsorption fundamentals, heat and mass transfer, cyclic processes, and system performance behavior
  • Ability to interpret performance drivers across scales
  • Experience designing experiments and working with experimental datasets
  • Proficient in Python and/or MATLAB for scientific computation and data analysis
  • Communicate findings clearly
  • Maintain structured and reproducible workflows
  • Contribute to well‑organized technical documentation
  • Work autonomously while ensuring tight technical alignment with relevant teams and interfaces
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written

  • Material Scale-Up: support the synthesis, testing and evaluation of sorbent materials for direct air capture ranging from laboratory experimental samples to commercially available materials
  • Lab Characterization: perform lab-based characterizations, including CO2 adsorption behavior and chemical stability and support the laboratory team with their day-to-day activity including reaction preparation and work-up
  • Material Processing: support the team in activities related to material processing, including milling and drying, as well as the associated analytics such as PSD and resistivity
  • Independent Analysis: work independently on tasks to understand properties of sorbent materials and support the team in improving analytical methods
  • Validation & Reporting: validate, troubleshoot, and clearly document your work to communicate effectively with stakeholders across Climeworks and support larger project goals

  • Adsorption Process Development: You act as a key link between sorbent development and process design engineering. You collect, evaluate, and synthesize all available tools and datasets, both experimental and modeling, to answer the core technical questions that drive process development.
