Department Summary: The Department of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital specializes in treating craniofacial and other conditions that can affect a child’s function and appearance. We’re among the world’s largest and most experienced pediatric plastic and oral surgery centers, with subspecialty programs that provide unparalleled plastic, reconstructive, and oral surgery care.
Job Responsibility:
Providing IV conscious sedation for patients ages 5 to young adults in our fast-paced oral surgery clinics
Starting IVs independently on patients
Preparation and administration of IV procedural sedation medications as well as other IV medications
Monitoring and assessing the patient before, during and post-recovery
Responding to emergency situations that may arise during sedation
Educating patients and families prior to and post procedures
Providing high quality care and advocating for patients and families to improve the patient experience
Collaborating with interdisciplinary clinic teams including nurses, clinical assistants, oral surgery assistants, physicians, residents, and physician assistants as well as other multidisciplinary colleagues to provide streamlined, comprehensive and supportive care
Performing telephone triage, pre-op and follow-up calls
Credentialing in sedation through the hospital annually
Working per diem, 10 hour shifts, rotating between the Boston and Waltham clinics
Requirements:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
2 – 3 years of experience in ICU or emergency room nursing is preferred
Pediatric and sedation experience is preferred
IV insertion proficiency is preferred
ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification (will provide training if not already certified)
MA RN license
