UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization. Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is the region's first academic-based facility to combine all heart and vascular-related services, programs and technology under one roof. The Registered Nurse provides direct care to critical care patients. These units provide care to a vast array of medical cardiology patients including cardiothoracic surgeries that include lung/heart transplants, coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and pulmonary thromboendarterectomies. These units utilize advanced training and skills to take care of high acuity, complex patients. 24 hour physician coverage on this unit. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4.
Job Responsibility:
Provides direct care to critical care patients using the nursing process in the clinic setting
Develops and provides treatment plans as requested
Promotes self-care through education
Organizes and maintains clinic equipment and supplies
Requirements:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
RN License issued by the State of California
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date
One (1) year of recent acute care RN experience in Progressive Care or Telemetry
Demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing-sensitive indicators relevant Progressive Care or Telemetry and integrates these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes
Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for complex, evolving patient conditions within a PCU setting
Ability to critically handle unexpected challenges and create solutions with a patient-centered approach
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients
Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs
