Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced People & Culture (P&C) Advisor to join our collaborative P&C team. This generalist role provides expert advice and hands-on support across the employee lifecycle, with a strong focus on end-to-end recruitment, employee relations, and remuneration.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide expert advice to People Leaders on performance management, conduct, workforce planning, leave management, and policy interpretation
  • Support Level 1 employee relations matters and maintain accurate ER case records
  • Respond to escalated staff enquiries in line with policy, legislation, and best practice
  • Manage leave enquiries and approvals
  • Support workplace change initiatives and people-related process improvements
  • Coordinate exit interviews and surveys for allocated departments
  • Maintain employee lifecycle records, including contract end dates and flexible work arrangements
  • Support return-to-work processes in collaboration with the WHS Advisor
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment for allocated departments (including casual staff)
  • Partner with hiring managers to deliver inclusive, compliant, and effective recruitment outcomes
  • Conduct candidate screening, interviews, assessments, and reference checks
  • Support the Annual Staffing Process and workforce planning activities
  • Maintain recruitment systems, tools, and collateral including job advertisements and position descriptions
  • Manage relationships with external recruitment agencies as required
  • Support onboarding processes to ensure a positive and engaging employee experience
  • Represent MLC at graduate fairs and recruitment events in collaboration with relevant teams
  • Interpret Awards and industrial agreements to determine appropriate remuneration
  • Support the preparation and issuance of employment contracts
  • Conduct market salary benchmarking and manage salary survey tools (e.g. Mercer, AHISA)
  • Prepare remuneration reports to support strategic decision-making
  • Track and analyse recruitment metrics and workforce data
  • Contribute to College-wide P&C projects and initiatives
  • Support workforce salary budgeting and annual people projects
  • Assist with compliance and third-party reporting (e.g. WGEA)

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in end-to-end recruitment and generalist HR/P&C advisory roles
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, industrial relations, and award frameworks
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and sound ethical judgement
  • Strong problem-solving, coaching, and relationship management skills
  • Proficiency in HR systems, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft Office
  • A current Working With Children Check and right to work in Australia
  • Alignment with MLC’s values and commitment to service excellence

Nice to have:

  • Experience in the education or not-for-profit sector
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline
  • Membership of AHRI (or equivalent)
