Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital Physical Therapy Charlotte offers comprehensive pediatric speech‑language pathology services that provide individualized, family‑centered evaluation and treatment for children from infancy through adolescence. The SLP team addresses a wide range of communication, speech, language, feeding, and swallowing needs related to conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, stuttering, brain injury, cleft lip and palate, and hearing loss. Working within an integrated pediatric specialty environment, speech‑language pathologists collaborate closely as part of an inter-disciplinary team to deliver coordinated, developmentally appropriate care that supports each child’s communication potential in a warm, child‑friendly setting. Provides a full range of differential diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients referred by a physician. Performs specialized tests and treatments as well as teaching procedures to the patient, family and other health personnel.
Job Responsibility:
Performs comprehensive professional evaluation of patients of all ages referred for differential diagnosis of communicative or swallowing disorders
Ensures patient and/or family education regarding communication or swallowing deficits and treatment options
Plans and conducts treatment programs for patients with speech, language, voice and/or swallowing impairments
Provides and participates in in-service education and training of speech pathology interns and fellows, medical students/residents, and allied medical personnel
Continuously seeks to improve patient care services and evaluates opportunities to develop new services
Evaluates options for augmentative/alternative communication and recommends and/or fits appropriate devices or prostheses to meet patient needs, as applicable
Ensures that age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided
Ensures the ongoing assessment, maintenance, and continual improvement of staff competence related to age-specific needs of patients
Adequate performance on financial/budget expectations
Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment
Requirements:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
Minimum one year post Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) clinical experience, two years preferred
Current license in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the applicable state Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association
Candidate must have SLP-CCC
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and older adult patients
Possesses a strong, clinical interest and maintains versatility, creativity and adaptability
Independent performance of clinical skills, decision-making, and daily scheduling
