The Pediatric Care Technician (PCT) is an unlicensed multi-skilled worker who supports patient care by performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider. Care provided by the PCT is supervised by a Registered Nurse. The role is on the pediatric inpatient post-surgical unit (Explorer), a 35-bed unit specializing in post-surgical care for patients across various specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
Job Responsibility:
Supports patient care by performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider
Care provided is supervised by a Registered Nurse
Requirements:
Graduation from a patient care program (i.e. MA, CNA, EMT), or one semester of an RN or LVN program, or two years in a similar role in lieu of a patient care program or nursing requirement
Minimum six (6) months providing direct patient care preferred
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to be delegated tasks by the RN
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner
Medical terminology and Bilingual skills preferred
High School diploma as accredited by the US Department of Education or GED required
BLS – Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
