Job Description:

We are seeking a PDP Lawyer to provide clear, practical and high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad range of local authority matters. The ideal candidate will be confident managing a complex caseload, delivering pragmatic legal solutions, and supporting stakeholders across a large public sector organisation. This position sits within a Professional Development Programme designed to support ongoing career progression and skills development.

Job Responsibility:

  • Providing timely, clear and effective legal advice and representation
  • Managing a complex caseload with minimal supervision
  • Undertaking advocacy where required in hearings and proceedings
  • Advising members, officers, and committees on legal and procedural matters
  • Drafting, reviewing and interpreting legal documentation, reports and agreements
  • Supporting Monitoring Officer responsibilities relating to legality and procedural compliance
  • Managing matters through electronic case management systems within a paper-light environment
  • Delivering legal guidance and training to internal stakeholders where required
  • Supporting senior legal colleagues and contributing to wider team objectives

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practising certificate
  • Experience managing a varied and complex legal caseload independently
  • Strong drafting, advisory and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and provide practical legal solutions
  • Advocacy experience or demonstrable aptitude for advocacy
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience working with digital or electronic case management systems

Nice to have:

  • Experience within local government or public sector legal services
  • Experience advising governance, committee or regulatory functions
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior colleagues
