Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Tax Specialist to join our team in Decatur, Alabama. This Contract-to-Permanent position offers the opportunity to handle comprehensive payroll tax functions while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll tax management and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and resolving discrepancies efficiently. Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure accurate withholding of payroll taxes in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Manage employer payroll tax contributions, including Social Security and Medicare
  • Prepare and file tax returns, such as Form 941 and other state and local filings, through the current payroll system
  • Monitor changes in tax laws to maintain compliance with all payroll tax requirements
  • Maintain meticulous records of payroll tax filings, payments, and related documentation
  • Resolve discrepancies or issues related to payroll taxes, including inquiries from tax authorities or employees
  • Provide necessary documentation and support during payroll tax audits
  • Oversee payroll systems to ensure proper tax calculations and reporting
  • Manage year-end processes, including W-2 preparation through the payroll provider
  • Handle wage attachment processes, including data entry, vendor follow-up, and employee communication

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in payroll tax compliance or a similar role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations
  • multi-state experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in payroll software systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with UKG Pro or Kronos is a plus, though not required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
