Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Tax Specialist to join our team in Decatur, Alabama. This Contract-to-ongoing position offers an opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring payroll tax compliance and accuracy within a dynamic environmental industry setting. Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure accurate withholding of payroll taxes from employee wages in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • manage employer contributions to payroll taxes, including Social Security and Medicare payments
  • prepare and file payroll tax returns, such as Form 941 and state/local tax filings, using the current payroll provider
  • monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance with all payroll tax requirements
  • maintain organized and accurate records of payroll tax payments and filings
  • investigate and resolve discrepancies or issues related to payroll taxes, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities
  • provide support during payroll tax audits by furnishing documentation and addressing auditor questions
  • oversee payroll systems and software to ensure accurate calculation and reporting of payroll taxes
  • complete year-end processes, including W-2 preparation, through the payroll provider
  • manage wage attachment processes, including vendor follow-up and communication with employees

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
  • minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll tax compliance or a similar role
  • solid knowledge of payroll tax laws and multi-state payroll experience is highly desirable
  • proficiency in payroll software systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • experience with UKG Pro or similar systems is a plus
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion
