Job Description:

Robert Half Management Resources is looking for an experienced Payroll Tax Consultant to join one of our clients on an interim basis. This role requires a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual with extensive expertise in multi-state payroll tax compliance and hands-on experience managing complex tax issues. You will play a pivotal role in providing technical guidance, ensuring operational stability, and delivering accurate and compliant payroll tax processing.

Job Responsibility:

  • Act as a subject-matter expert for multi-state payroll tax compliance, offering strategic and technical guidance
  • Validate and review payroll tax filings, payments, reconciliations, and year-end processes to ensure accuracy
  • Investigate and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, agency notices, and inquiries with precision
  • Collaborate with internal teams to assess payroll tax risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and advise on necessary system or compliance adjustments
  • Support payroll tax audits and internal reviews, ensuring documentation is thorough and compliant
  • Analyze existing payroll tax processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce errors
  • Assist with payroll tax system updates and ensure the accuracy of data maintenance
  • Provide technical direction and support to payroll tax staff without direct management responsibilities
  • Research payroll tax laws and deliver actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in multi-state payroll tax compliance, including filings and payments
  • Proven ability to resolve payroll tax discrepancies and manage agency notices effectively
  • Proficiency with electronic tax payment methods, including e-file systems
  • Strong analytical skills to assess and address complex payroll tax issues promptly
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in multi-state, high-volume payroll tax operations

Nice to have:

Familiarity with payroll and tax systems, with experience in MasterTax and PrismHR being a plus
