We are looking for a skilled Payroll Tax Administrator to oversee payroll reconciliation, compliance, and reporting for a long-term contract position. Based in Downey, California, this role involves ensuring accuracy in tax filings, W-2 reviews, and payroll deductions while collaborating with multiple districts to maintain compliance. Job Responsibility:
Conduct thorough quarterly payroll tax reconciliations to ensure compliance with federal, state, Medicare, and local tax regulations
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll reports, including gross-to-net alignment and deduction inconsistencies
Review year-end adjustments to ensure accurate application across prior and current quarters
Reconcile W-2 data, including taxable wages, benefits, and deductions, identifying and correcting discrepancies before finalization
Prepare accurate payroll data for state and federal filings, troubleshooting submission issues to ensure timely acceptance
Collaborate with district payroll teams to provide guidance on quarterly reviews, year-end processes, and adjustment entries
Lead documentation reviews and training sessions to enhance understanding of payroll reconciliation procedures
Verify compliance for retirement deductions such as 403(b) and 457 plans, reviewing caps and overseeing correction processes
Ensure overtime calculations align with bargaining agreements and organizational guidelines
Support system expansion initiatives by developing scalable workflows and documentation for onboarding new districts
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years' experience in payroll processing and reconciliation within multi-entity or district environments
Proficiency in quarterly and year-end payroll balancing, W-2 reviews, and tax compliance
Familiarity with retirement deduction structures, including 403(b) and 457 plans
Expertise in preparing payroll data for state and federal filings with an ability to resolve submission errors
Strong analytical skills paired with attention to detail in reviewing payroll reports and tax filings
Demonstrated ability to train end-users and document reconciliation procedures effectively
Experience using payroll software like ADP Workforce Now
Knowledge of multi-state payroll operations and compliance requirements
