The Payroll Supervisor reports to the Senior Payroll Manager and is responsible for a team of payroll professionals who prepare weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for over 3,000 employees. This position assists in developing and maintaining appropriate internal payroll controls and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, along with internal policies and controls. This position enjoys a hybrid work schedule and sits at the Group’s headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.
Job Responsibility:
Manages weekly and semi-monthly pay cycles across multiple business units, ensuring accurate and timely payments to employees
Ensures the compliant and timely preparation, filing, and payment of union fees and garnishments
Provides wage and related information for union audits
Maintains company-wide payroll policies, procedures, goals, operating plans, and schedules
Assists in the development of short- and long-term strategic initiatives for the Payroll Department
Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory agencies to support payroll operations and business objectives
Monitors team performance against established standards and provides coaching, training, and development to ensure high-quality service delivery
Completes special projects and performs additional duties to support the organization’s overall goals
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or 5-7 years of progressive and relevant payroll experience, including some time in a management role
Experience with union payroll processing reporting, strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including multi-state payroll processing
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage teams and collaborate across departments
High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll and employee information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and relevant payroll software experience (UKG)
Proficiency in D365 or similar accounting/ERP system
Nice to have:
Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional designation (CPP)
Experience with union payroll processing reporting
