We are looking for an experienced payroll leader to oversee payroll operations for a large healthcare organization in Nashua, New Hampshire. This role is responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on schedule while maintaining compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The position also serves as a key partner to internal teams, supports payroll system effectiveness, and helps strengthen processes for a workforce of approximately 1,500 employees.
Job Responsibility:
Lead daily payroll activities and provide direction, coaching, and oversight to a team of four payroll specialists
Manage recurring payroll cycles, including bi-weekly processing and designated provider pay schedules, with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness
Examine and authorize payroll entries such as earnings, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and manual adjustments
Maintain adherence to applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as organizational policies and relevant labor agreement requirements
Work closely with Human Resources, Finance, and operational leaders to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee concerns
Oversee payroll reconciliations, reporting activities, and audit support to help ensure reliable financial and compliance outcomes
Serve as the primary resource for Workday payroll processing, issue resolution, and improved system usage across the department
Support year-end payroll responsibilities, including wage statement preparation and payroll tax filing activities
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce errors, and improve overall payroll efficiency for a multi-state employee population
Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters affecting approximately 1,500 employees
Requirements:
At least five years of payroll experience, including prior responsibility for leading or supervising payroll staff
Demonstrated background handling high-volume, full-cycle payroll in a multi-state environment
healthcare industry experience is preferred
Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, tax rules, and compliance standards across multiple jurisdictions
Hands-on experience with Workday is required
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and confidence working with payroll data, reconciliations, and reporting
Ability to manage detailed work accurately, stay organized, and solve issues in a fast-paced setting
Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and support employee inquiries professionally
