The Payroll Supervisor at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is responsible for overseeing and managing all payroll operations for the unit. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large, event-driven workforce, compliance with wage and hour laws, and coordination with HR and Finance teams. The Payroll Specialist will also provide leadership, training, and support to the HR Manager and employees regarding payroll policies and procedures.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and guarantee accurate disbursement of payroll, benefits, and taxes in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Ensure timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations
Handle union payroll administration duties where applicable
Oversee day-to-day payroll data collection and entry
Prepare and review weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reports
Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly
Maintain compliance with wage and hour laws, union agreements, and company policies
Assist with audits and ensure proper documentation for all payroll activities
Communicate actively with Operations, HR, and Finance to review cross-departmental impacts
Provide guidance and training to schedule coordinators on payroll processes and systems when needed
Own the Payroll reconciliation process and ensure pay distributions are completed
Compose and administrate the Overtime report, Missed punches report, Paid time off calendar, Bereavement tracker, Non worked hours for unpaid time off, and Shift Differential report
Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and teamwork
Requirements:
Minimum 1–3 years of human resources experience, preferably in a high-volume, unionized environment
Knowledge of State Employment and labor laws
Ability to effectively use scheduling software
Strong knowledge of HRIS or payroll systems (KRONOS/ABI or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency required)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Experience with union payroll and collective bargaining agreements preferred

Work both independently and with a team
Resolve payroll discrepancies and questions quickly on the spot
