We are looking for a Payroll Supervisor/Manager to join a field services organization in the Oil & Gas industry in Houston, Texas. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a payroll specialist who can oversee end-to-end payroll operations, support employees with payroll-related questions, and ensure compliance with applicable tax and wage regulations. The position requires a hands-on leader who can balance accuracy, responsiveness, and reporting responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility
Oversee complete payroll processing from initial data review through final submission, ensuring wages, deductions, and tax withholdings are calculated accurately and on schedule
Address employee questions related to pay, deductions, and eligible reimbursement matters with clear and timely communication
Prepare payroll-related financial reports, including general ledger support data, and provide requested information to internal stakeholders
Monitor federal, state, and local payroll requirements to help maintain compliance with current laws affecting payroll, benefits, and expense practices
Review payroll records for accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and maintain thorough documentation to support audits and internal controls
Coordinate payroll activities across multi-state employee populations while meeting reporting deadlines and payment obligations
Use payroll and HR systems to maintain employee pay data, validate updates, and support consistent processing standards
Partner with internal teams to improve payroll workflows, maintain organized records, and support operational efficiency
Requirements
Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll processing in a supervisory or lead capacity
Hands-on knowledge of multi-state payroll administration for employee populations ranging from approximately 101 to 500 workers
Strong familiarity with payroll laws, tax reporting requirements, and standard payroll compliance practices
Experience using ADP Workforce Now and related payroll, benefits, or HR platforms
Advanced attention to detail with the ability to organize priorities and meet recurring deadlines independently
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across a broad range of stakeholders
Solid numerical and analytical skills, including practical proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
