Job Description

We are looking for an experienced payroll leader to oversee accurate and timely payroll operations for multiple business units in Ohio. This role is ideal for someone who brings deep expertise in Workday Payroll, understands the complexities of multi-state processing, and can confidently manage compliance across federal, state, and local requirements. The successful candidate will serve as a dependable resource for payroll administration, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination with internal teams.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead end-to-end bi-weekly payroll processing for several business units, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across each pay cycle
  • Administer multi-state payroll activities, including tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and adherence to applicable jurisdictional regulations
  • Oversee Workday Payroll and related systems, maintaining day-to-day functionality and addressing payroll-related issues as they arise
  • Calculate and process variable compensation elements such as commissions, bonuses, overtime, benefit deductions, and off-cycle adjustments
  • Maintain and update employee payroll information, including direct deposit details, tax elections, and other payroll records
  • Audit payroll data before final submission by reviewing earnings, deductions, and balances to identify and correct discrepancies
  • Prepare required payroll tax filings, reporting, and supporting documentation in accordance with regulatory deadlines
  • Partner closely with Human Resources, Benefits, and Finance to resolve payroll matters, support audits, and ensure accurate employee payments

Requirements

  • Experience managing full-cycle payroll in a high-volume environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll, with the ability to administer payroll processes independently
  • Proven experience handling payroll across multiple states and maintaining compliance with related tax and labor requirements
  • Experience processing bi-weekly payroll for employee populations of 500 or more
  • Solid understanding of payroll taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, and payroll reconciliations
  • Ability to investigate payroll discrepancies, solve problems efficiently, and communicate clearly with employees and internal stakeholders

  • Direct payroll tax activities such as reconciliations, return filings, year-end reporting, W-2 distribution, and the accurate remittance of deductions and benefits
  • Manage wage garnishments, tax withholding requirements, and payroll interfaces involving state agencies and other external entities
  • Establish and monitor internal controls that protect confidential employee data, support accurate reconciliations, and reduce operational risk
