Robert Half is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support a high-volume, fast-paced payroll operation. The Payroll Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple departments and employee groups. The ideal Payroll Specialist is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment. A proven track record of reliability and the ability to collaborate with a team while stepping in where needed is essential. This contract to potential permanent opportunity is located in the San Diego region and will be onsite.
Job Responsibility:
Review and audit payroll data, including timekeeping and attendance records, for accuracy and compliance
Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including adjustments, bonuses, and deductions
Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
Enter and update employee information, pay rates, and tax withholdings
Support payroll processing through systems such as ADP, Workday, or UKG
Assist with payroll reconciliations and closing of pay periods
Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
Manage payroll-related communications via shared inbox and phone support
Prepare payroll reports and assist with audits as needed
Escalate complex payroll issues to senior leadership when necessary
Requirements:
3+ years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment
Experience with ADP, Workday, UKG, or similar payroll systems preferred
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced setting
Reliable, organized, and able to handle confidential information
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Team-oriented with flexibility to support evolving business needs
