Our client is seeking a Payroll Specialist for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role is responsible for supporting end-to-end payroll processing, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality.
Job Responsibility:
Process payroll for hourly, salaried, and/or multi-state employees in accordance with company policies and payroll deadlines
Review timekeeping records, audit payroll data, and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll submission
Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, and direct deposit updates
Ensure accurate withholding for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other payroll-related deductions
Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding pay, deductions, timekeeping, and payroll procedures
Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, and payroll-related journal entries as needed
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll activities, including preparation of payroll reports and audit support
Partner with Human Resources, Finance, and other internal departments to ensure payroll data is complete and accurate
Help maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations and internal controls
Requirements:
2+ years of recent payroll experience in a corporate or high-volume environment
Strong understanding of payroll processing, deductions, tax withholdings, and payroll reporting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with payroll or HRIS systems
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet recurring deadlines
Strong communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information professionally
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field preferred
Nice to have:
Experience processing multi-state payroll is highly preferred
Familiarity with payroll platforms or related systems such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Paychex, or similar tools
