A school district is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage and process payroll for instructional and non-instructional staff. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of public-sector payroll practices, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and timely for teachers, administrative staff, and support personnel. The role ensures compliance with district policies, union contracts, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Job Responsibility:
Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees
Review and audit electronic timekeeping records, attendance, and leave balances
Calculate and process stipends, overtime, retroactive pay, and contractual salary adjustments
Maintain payroll records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
Ensure proper deductions for taxes, benefits, pensions, and garnishments
Prepare payroll reports for administration and finance leadership
Assist with year-end processes including W-2 preparation and reconciliation
Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
Support audits and ensure adherence to internal controls
Requirements:
3–5+ years of payroll experience (school district or public sector experience preferred)
Experience with electronic timekeeping systems
Nvision is a huge plus
Familiarity with union contracts and civil service payroll structures is a plus
Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
High school diploma required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
