We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a large employee population in Portland, Maine. This is a Long-term Contract position focused on managing end-to-end payroll activities across multiple states while maintaining compliance and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with high-volume payroll processing and can work confidently within ADP Workforce Now.
Job Responsibility
Process full-cycle payroll for a workforce of more than 500 employees, ensuring pay is issued accurately and on schedule
Administer payroll activities across multiple states while applying appropriate tax, wage, and compliance requirements
Use ADP Workforce Now to manage payroll data, review transactions, and resolve processing issues efficiently
Audit payroll records, earnings, deductions, and adjustments to identify discrepancies and correct them before payroll completion
Partner with internal stakeholders to address payroll-related questions, research variances, and provide clear follow-up
Maintain organized payroll documentation and support reporting needs related to payroll operations and compliance
Assist with payroll updates, system-related changes, and process improvements as needed within the payroll function
Requirements
Proven experience handling full-cycle payroll from initial data review through final payroll completion
Background managing multi-state payroll with solid understanding of payroll regulations and tax requirements
Hands-on experience using ADP Workforce Now in a payroll processing environment
Ability to manage high-volume payroll, including populations of 500 or more employees
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and maintain data accuracy
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with employees and internal teams
Proficiency with payroll reporting, recordkeeping, and general payroll administration best practices
