We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a large healthcare organization in Ames, Iowa. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can quickly take ownership of payroll operations for a workforce of more than 1,500 employees while working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment. The role combines on-site collaboration with some remote work and calls for someone detail-oriented who can deliver accurate, compliant payroll support with minimal ramp-up time.
Job Responsibility
Manage the complete biweekly payroll cycle for a large employee population, ensuring timely and accurate processing from start to finish
Prepare and process year-end wage statements and quarterly payroll tax filings internally, with a strong focus on accuracy and regulatory compliance
Administer payroll taxes, wage garnishments, and related deductions while maintaining adherence to applicable federal, state, and local requirements
Investigate and resolve timekeeping discrepancies, payroll issues, and employee questions in a responsive and detail-oriented manner
Provide payroll operational support during organizational process changes, helping maintain continuity and accuracy throughout the assignment
Work closely with internal teams and stakeholders on-site and remotely to ensure payroll data is validated and processed correctly
Maintain detailed payroll records and documentation to support audits, reporting needs, and compliance standards.
Requirements
At least 2 years of payroll experience, including hands-on responsibility for full-cycle payroll processing
Proven ability to process payroll in high-volume environments, preferably for organizations with more than 500 employees
Direct experience completing W-2 processing and 941 filings in-house
Strong understanding of multi-state payroll practices, payroll tax regulations, and compliance requirements
Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now and related timekeeping or payroll platforms
Ability to step into an active payroll function quickly and work with limited training or supervision
Willingness to work on-site in Ames, Iowa, with flexibility for some remote responsibilities as needed.
