The Payroll Specialist ensures accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting so associates are paid correctly and on schedule. This role reports to the Payroll Manager and may also receive direction from the Payroll Assistant Manager. You will process multi-state payroll for over 4,000 employees on bi-weekly and weekly cycles, calculate pay accurately, and manage corporate and field payroll adjustments.
Job Responsibility:
Process daily manual payroll calculations with precision and accuracy
Handle the processing of payroll for at least 4,000 employees each week
Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations, deductions, and garnishments
Issue adjustments to pay because of previous errors or retroactive increases
Research and resolve tax notices/discrepancies referred by government, state, and local agencies on time to mitigate potential penalties and interest
Act as a point of contact for employee inquiries regarding paychecks, deductions, and other payroll-related issues
Generate and submit various payroll reports as required for internal partners
Accurately managing garnishment data such as IRS levies, child support, student loans, bankruptcies, and third-party creditor orders into payroll and HR systems like OSV
Handling incoming mail, maintaining documentation, filing, and payroll team emails
Requirements:
Minimum of 4 years previous experience in payroll processing and payroll tax compliance is essential
Proficiency in payroll tax, tax notices, tax returns, reconciliation, and tax accounting
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Paychex, or similar)
Accounting software and spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel are crucial
Meticulous attention to detail is critical for accurate payroll calculations and tax filings
The ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and resolve complex payroll and tax-related issues is essential
Strong organizational skills are needed to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and maintain accurate records
The ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion is paramount
