The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll and maintaining employee time records. Additionally, they will enter payroll data into the system database, verify the accuracy of figures and computations, and balance and reconcile accounts.
Job Responsibility:
Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system
Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions
Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements
Issues, reissues, physical or replacement checks, or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge
Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent and an Associate’s degree in a related field
or two years of directly related (accounting/payroll) experience and training
or equivalent combination of education and experience
Moderate computer skills required for data entry, Word, Excel, and other software programs
Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, or organizations
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Access to transportation, a California driver's license, and the minimum vehicle insurance needed by law
Employees are regularly required to stand and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel
The employee is frequently required to walk: reach with hands and arms
sit, kneel, stoop, climb, or balance
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Travel to other locations and outside training
Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and ability to maneuver a dolly
