JD Sports is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our Head Office team. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate, timely payroll across ANZ, supporting a fast-paced retail network. This is a hands-on role requiring Dayforce experience, attention to detail and the ability to manage payroll in a high-volume environment.
Job Responsibility:
End-to-end weekly and monthly payroll processing for Australia and New Zealand using Dayforce
Maintain accurate time & attendance records and ensure timesheets are approved in line with payroll deadlines
Process employee lifecycle changes including new hires, variations, terminations and out-of-cycle payments
Manage the payroll inbox and respond to queries within agreed timeframes
Liaise with Support Office, Store Managers and Area Managers to resolve payroll queries
Prepare and process payroll tax, superannuation (PayDay Super), withholding tax and NZ pay day filing
Support end-of-month and end-of-year processes across ANZ
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, awards and NZ employment regulations
Interpret and apply relevant industry awards (rates, allowances, overtime, super)
Maintain and audit payroll data, ensuring accuracy and integrity
Prepare reports, reconciliations and insights to support business decision-making
Identify opportunities to improve and optimise payroll processes and systems
Requirements:
4–5+ years’ experience in a similar role and payroll environment, including weekly processing
Proven experience using Ceridian / Dayforce (essential)
Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and award interpretation (Retail, Storage & Services, Clerical advantageous)
Exposure to New Zealand payroll highly regarded
Strong Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data and perform reconciliations
Experience resolving complex payroll issues through detailed analysis and corrective actions
High attention to detail with the ability to work at pace and manage competing priorities
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate payroll data into clear, practical insights
Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team
Nice to have:
Exposure to New Zealand payroll
Retail, Storage & Services, Clerical award knowledge
