Job Description:

The primary objective of this position is to perform the full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation, preparation, processing, and reconciliation of the semi-monthly payroll in an accurate and timely manner. While performing these activities one must follow all University policies and procedures, the Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other regulations as required.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform the full range of payroll processing activities to include calculation, preparation, processing, and reconciliation of the semi-monthly payroll in an accurate and timely manner
  • Follow all University policies and procedures, the Commonwealth of Virginia policies, Federal and State tax laws, garnishment laws and other regulations as required

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of payroll policies and procedures
  • Experience processing payroll in an automated payroll system
  • Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage-hour regulations, state and federal tax laws, garnishment laws and regulations concerning payroll calculations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex mathematical computations
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Considerable experience processing full payrolls in an automated accounting systems
  • Considerable experience working with Payroll Federal and State tax laws
  • Prior working experience in a supervisory role

Nice to have:

  • Some experience working with Banner software
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field
  • Equivalent level of training or work experience may be substituted
