Job Description

The town of Marshfield is seeking a full-time Payroll Personnel Administrative Assistant for the Department of Public Works. Payroll Personnel is responsible for the processing and coordination of the payroll and benefit administration functions within the Department of Public Works department. The employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Job Responsibility

  • Responsible for submittal to Payroll Administrator of all payroll that pertains to personnel for all DPW Divisions including contractual, union and those employees under the Personnel Bylaws
  • Works effectively with insurance agencies for both, vehicle/medical issues, town property and workmen’s compensation claims
  • Works with Human Resources to process work related accident reports, maintains records, submits bills when appropriate
  • Maintains monthly sick time, vacation and emergency work reports for Superintendent, Supervisors and Town Accountant
  • Submits all payroll deduction invoices to the accountant’s office for payment including remittances for mailing by the Treasurer’s office
  • Maintains employee leave accrual records (i.e., vacation, sick leave, personal leave)
  • provides reports for verification of such data to DPW Division’s and Payroll Administrator
  • Responsible for entering and verifying new contract salary schedules and annual tax tables after approval by Superintendent or designee

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of MA Labor Law, Common policies, practices and procedures of the department and office operations
  • laws and regulations pertinent to position functions
  • Knowledge of office software (word processing and spread sheet applications), payroll software systems, and the Internet
  • Ability to work independently and to interact effectively with co-workers and disgruntled members of the public and other department personnel
