The Payroll Officer is responsible for end to end payroll processing of veterinary and non-veterinary pays. This includes processing fortnightly and monthly pays, ensuring that entitlements, tax and super are accurately calculated, onboarding and offboarding team members, conducting audits and investigating discrepancies. AEA has approximately 800 staff Australia-wide with 3 pay runs (2x fortnightly and 1x monthly). Please note that this role will work alongside the Payroll Manager, and is a small team of two so we are looking for a kind person with the ability to work autonomously.
Job Responsibility:
Manage accurate and timely processing of monthly veterinary and fortnightly non-veterinary payrolls, including timesheets, pays, bank uploads, payslips, adjustments and wage advances
Support onboarding and offboarding from a payroll perspective, including payroll setup, tax and superannuation compliance, contract changes and timely final payments
Maintain payroll data integrity and produce wage, financial and operational reports, dashboards and ad-hoc analysis to support managers and business decision-making
Ensure payroll practices comply with Fair Work, NES, awards, contracts, taxation and superannuation requirements, including liaising with external governing bodies as required
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, respond to payroll enquiries, support audits, and develop or improve payroll SOPs and processes to prevent recurring issues
Communicate professionally with stakeholders, uphold confidentiality, support team operations, maintain compliance with WHS and company policies, and proactively contribute to a positive, high-performing workplace culture
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years’ payroll experience
Demonstrated experience in managing a payroll system from start to finish with minimal support
Communication and soft skill training (eg. emotional intelligence, managing conflict, negotiation skills)
Strong knowledge of awards and award interpretation
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Excellent communication and time management
Nice to have:
Familiarity with UKG (Workforce Ready) & Payroll Metrics
Prior experience in healthcare, veterinary, or not-for-profit sectors
