About the Role You’ll be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of weekly and fortnightly payrolls, ensuring full compliance with the New Zealand Holidays Act 2003, employment legislation, and internal policies. Working closely with the NZ Payroll Manager, you’ll support our stores, distribution centres and head office teams across the CW Retail and our other portfolios. This role suits someone who enjoys ownership, continuous improvement, and building strong relationships across the business.

Job Responsibility

  • Payroll processing — Prepare and process weekly, fortnightly and adjustment pay runs with accuracy
  • Data maintenance — Keep employee records current and ensure system integrity
  • Compliance checks — Audit payroll data and test systems for Holidays Act compliance
  • Employee support — Provide high-quality service to employees and managers with payroll queries
  • Legislation interpretation — Apply and advise on payroll legislation, ACC, parental leave and employment variations
  • Reporting — Generate payroll reports and insights for management
  • Continuous improvement — Identify trends and recommend process enhancements

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of payroll experience in a high-volume environment (2000+ staff)
  • Experience with systems such as PayGlobal, Xero Payroll, Deputy or similar
  • Strong understanding of NZ payroll legislation and employment standards
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels
  • High attention to detail, strong organisation, and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with resilience and follow-through
  • Ability to work autonomously while knowing when to escalate issues
  • Analytical thinking and a passion for continuous improvement
