We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-location workforce based in Birmingham, Alabama. This contract-to-permanent position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can ensure payroll accuracy, coordinate effectively with internal leadership and external payroll partners, and support a high-volume environment with strong attention to detail. The role is fully in-office and offers the opportunity to step into a key leadership position with supervisory responsibility.
Job Responsibility:
Manage complete payroll processing for a workforce distributed across six locations, ensuring timely and accurate pay administration
Oversee multi-state payroll activities and confirm compliance with applicable wage, tax, and reporting requirements
Review, approve, and reconcile payroll data before submission to the payroll provider
Serve as the primary point of contact for communication with the external payroll system provider regarding payroll execution and tax-related matters
Supervise and support one direct report, providing guidance on daily payroll tasks and issue resolution
Partner closely with the Controller to address payroll questions, reporting needs, and process oversight
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee pay concerns, and approval issues in a timely manner
Maintain organized payroll records and contribute to consistent, efficient payroll operations in an in-office setting
Requirements:
Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle payroll from data review through final approval and issue resolution
Background handling multi-state payroll in a complex employee environment
Experience supporting payroll populations of several hundred employees, including high-volume processing demands
Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now
Prior leadership or supervisory experience within a payroll function
Strong understanding of payroll compliance, controls, and payroll-related communications with third-party providers
High level of accuracy, discretion, and organizational skill in managing sensitive employee information
