Robert Half is searching for a hands-on Payroll Manager to oversee and execute all aspects of payroll operations for a workforce of several hundred employees. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and supervising a small payroll department. Job Responsibility
Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a multi-state employee population using UKG
Serve as the primary payroll processor, ensuring accurate and timely weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll processing
Supervise, mentor, and support one Payroll team member while maintaining a collaborative and service-oriented environment
Review payroll transactions, earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, bonuses, commissions, and adjustments for accuracy
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
Manage payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, year-end activities, and coordinate with external vendors as needed
Partner with Human Resources and Finance to ensure employee data, benefit deductions, and compensation changes are processed accurately
Reconcile payroll-related accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close activities
Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure data integrity and confidentiality
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, reporting, and system efficiencies within UKG
Support audits by preparing payroll documentation and responding to internal and external audit requests
Stay current on payroll legislation, tax regulations, and industry best practices
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or equivalent experience
5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including supervisory or team lead responsibilities
Hands-on experience processing payroll for several hundred employees
Demonstrated expertise using UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) payroll systems
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws
Experience processing multi-state payroll
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with payroll reporting
Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines
Nice to have
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
Experience supporting payroll audits and system implementations or upgrades
Knowledge of HRIS integrations and payroll best practices
