We are looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to support a high-volume payroll operation in Brooklyn, New York. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can oversee end-to-end payroll activities across multiple states with accuracy, urgency, and strong compliance awareness. The role will partner with a small payroll team to ensure timely weekly processing, support audit activity, and manage specialized payroll elements such as tipped wages and final pay calculations.
Job Responsibility
Administer complete weekly payroll processing for a large employee population across multiple states, ensuring pay is delivered accurately and on schedule
Review timesheet data, validate payroll inputs, and resolve discrepancies before each payroll cycle is finalized
Handle payroll for tipped employees, applying appropriate wage calculations and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations
Prepare payroll-related journal entries and complete manual general ledger postings to support accurate financial reporting
Process high volumes of final pay for terminated employees in accordance with timing requirements and company policy
Maintain and update 401(k) tracking records, including payroll deductions and related reconciliations
Support external and regulatory audit requests by organizing records, answering payroll inquiries, and providing required documentation
Collaborate with a geographically aligned payroll team to manage assigned employee groups efficiently and meet weekly deadlines, including Monday processing demands when additional hours are needed
Requirements
Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll from data review through final processing and reconciliation
Strong background in multi-state payroll administration for large employee populations, including environments exceeding 500 employees
Knowledge of payroll practices related to tipped employees and weekly pay cycles
Experience preparing payroll journal entries and manual general ledger adjustments
Familiarity with final wage processing requirements and high-volume employee terminations
Working knowledge of 401(k) payroll tracking and payroll audit support
Proficiency with Paycom and confidence using payroll systems to manage complex processing activities
