Charlie Gilmur with Robert Half is looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee and enhance payroll operations at our organization located in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. This role is ideal for someone with a strong attention to detail and a solid background in multi-state payroll processing, compliance, and team leadership. The successful candidate will play a critical part in maintaining payroll accuracy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving process improvements.
Job Responsibility:
Manage multi-state payroll operations for multiple entities, ensuring accurate calculations, timekeeping, and data imports
Ensure compliance with wage laws, payroll tax filings, garnishments, and other statutory requirements
Maintain confidential and audit-ready payroll documentation in alignment with company policies and regulations
Lead payroll system configurations, upgrades, and integrations to improve efficiency and data accuracy
Generate detailed payroll reports to support Finance, HR, and Accounting teams
Conduct audits of payroll processes, incentive compensation, and bonus payments to ensure accuracy
Provide leadership and mentorship to the payroll team, fostering growth and collaboration
Analyze current payroll practices to identify and implement process improvements for greater accuracy and efficiency
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments to address business needs and enhance employee experiences
Support internal and external audits, including GL reconciliations and compliance reviews
Requirements:
A minimum of 10 years of experience managing payroll operations for large, multi-state organizations
At least 7 years in a supervisory role with direct report management
Expertise in processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees, including timekeeping integrations and wage calculations
Strong knowledge of payroll tax remittance, reconciliation, and compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions
Experience administering garnishments and other statutory deductions
Proficiency in configuring or optimizing payroll systems, preferably Paycom
Familiarity with internal controls and audit processes related to payroll
Associate degree or certification in accounting, business administration, or payroll preferred, such as Certified Payroll Certification or Fundamental Payroll Certification
