Job Description

We are looking for a Payroll Clerk to support payroll operations for a Long-term Contract position based in Salinas, California. This role works closely with the Payroll Manager and Human Resources team to help ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, sound judgment with confidential information, and the ability to resolve payroll-related issues in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Process payroll for employees across multiple states while following applicable federal and state requirements
  • Review and manage garnishment deductions, complete employment verification requests, and help maintain accurate payroll administration
  • Address employee payroll questions promptly and provide clear support regarding pay-related matters
  • Enter and update payroll data with a high level of accuracy, ensuring records remain current and complete
  • Assist with payroll reviews and audit activities by preparing documentation and helping verify transaction accuracy
  • Maintain organized payroll files, reports, and supporting records while safeguarding sensitive employee information
  • Support benefit-related and payroll administrative tasks as needed to keep daily operations running smoothly
  • Carry out additional payroll or clerical duties assigned by management to meet department needs

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of payroll experience
  • 3 or more years is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, including pivot tables and commonly used formulas
  • Experience with payroll and accounting systems such as ADP, Ceridian, Dayforce, or similar platforms
  • Working knowledge of payroll processing, auditing practices, and related administrative functions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail, sound problem-solving ability, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
