We are looking for a detail-focused Payroll Clerk to support payroll and HR operations in Houston, Texas. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can handle sensitive employee information with care, contribute to accurate semi-monthly payroll processing, and provide dependable support across benefits and employee record administration. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with employees and the HR team while helping maintain compliance with payroll and employment requirements.
Job Responsibility
Process semi-monthly payroll activities with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to applicable regulations
Maintain payroll documentation, employee files, and other confidential records in an organized and secure manner
Assist with benefits administration for medical, dental, vision, life, disability, supplemental coverage, and retirement plans, including support during open enrollment periods
Address employee questions related to pay, benefits, and HR guidelines by providing clear and thorough assistance
Update and maintain employee information to ensure records remain current and complete throughout the employment lifecycle
Support onboarding and separation tasks, including employment paperwork and related administrative coordination
Contribute to year-end payroll activities and help prepare records needed for reporting and reconciliation
Monitor federal, state, and local payroll and employment requirements to help maintain compliance across HR processes
Provide day-to-day administrative support to the HR team and promote a positive workplace culture through respectful employee interactions
Requirements
1-3 years of experience in payroll, benefits administration, HR support, or related compliance-focused work
Hands-on experience processing payroll, ideally in an environment with multi-state employees
Familiarity with Paylocity is preferred
Knowledge of payroll practices including full-cycle payroll processing and garnishment handling
Experience assisting with employee benefits programs and related administrative tasks
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain close attention to detail
Effective written and verbal communication skills for responding to employee and team inquiries
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, documentation, and daily administrative work
