Job Description:

We are looking for a Payroll Clerk to join our client in Hayward in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position focuses on supporting payroll operations for a multi-entity organization, with a strong emphasis on reviewing hourly time records, assisting with payroll completion, and helping ensure employees are paid accurately and on schedule. The role also serves as key support for senior payroll coverage during an upcoming leave period, making it ideal for someone who is dependable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced payroll environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Review and validate a high volume of hourly employee timesheets to confirm accuracy, completeness, and policy compliance before payroll is finalized
  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll activities for a workforce of approximately 520 employees across multiple company entities
  • Partner with the senior payroll team member to help prepare and submit payroll through Paycom for timely payment processing
  • Support payroll close activities by identifying discrepancies, following up on missing information, and helping resolve timekeeping issues
  • Serve as payroll backup during a senior staff absence, helping maintain continuity of payroll operations
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a clear and service-oriented manner, providing timely assistance
  • Help verify that exempt and non-exempt employees are paid correctly in alignment with hours worked and payroll records
  • Monitor timecard entries for compliance with wage and hour guidelines, including meal break and labor law considerations
  • Contribute to payroll accuracy by maintaining careful documentation and escalating unusual items when needed

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of payroll experience, including hands-on involvement with recurring payroll cycles
  • Prior experience with payroll auditing, especially timecard or timesheet review for hourly employees
  • Working knowledge of wage and hour rules, meal break requirements, and labor law compliance
  • Experience using Paycom is strongly preferred
  • Ability to support payroll processing for organizations with 100-500+ employees
What we offer:
  • Medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan
