Job Description

At Dandara, we believe the best ideas come from our people working together. We strive to look forward in all we do, with integrity and passion. Recruiting the right people is essential — our people’s contribution is what drives us to achieve our goals and continue growing as a business. We put our customers first, empower our people, and support the communities in which we build. Creating beautiful, award-winning homes is what we do. For over 30 years, we’ve combined innovative design with the highest standards of quality, making us one of the UK’s most respected private housebuilders. We’re now looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant / Trainee to join our Finance Operations Team in the Isle of Man. This is a great opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career — whether you’re a school leaver or have some administrative or payroll experience — who’s keen to build a long-term career in payroll and finance. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, timesheet-driven environment, with a clear pathway into a Payroll Specialist role.

Job Responsibility

  • Support the preparation and processing of weekly payroll
  • Review timesheets and accurately input payroll data
  • Carry out payroll checks and help resolve discrepancies
  • Work to strict payroll deadlines
  • Support subcontractor payments and related administration
  • Assist with subcontract ledger activities, including verification, set-ups, CIS checks and reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation
  • Support starters, leavers and employee changes
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and site teams
  • Ensure payroll processes are followed consistently and accurately
  • Handle confidential payroll and employee information appropriately
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team
  • Assist with reconciliations and data checks
  • Support wider finance tasks as required

Requirements

  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational skills and ability to follow structured processes
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • A willingness to learn and develop within payroll and finance

Nice to have

  • Some experience in a payroll, finance or administrative role
  • Experience in a construction or timesheet-driven environment
  • Familiarity with timesheets, data entry or working with numerical information
  • A genuine interest in building a long-term career in payroll or finance

What we offer

  • Hands-on experience in a busy finance team
  • Support towards professional qualifications, including ACCA Foundations in Accountancy (FIA)
  • Clear development pathway within payroll and the wider finance team
  • Ongoing learning and development as your experience grows
  • Competitive salary and benefits package depending on experience
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 5 additional days
  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life assurance (3x salary, with option to increase to 4x)
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Discounts across retailers, restaurants, leisure providers and more
  • Cycle to work and electric vehicle schemes
