We are looking for a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to support accurate, timely pay administration and dependable benefits coordination for our client in Fall River, Massachusetts. This position works closely with finance and human resources to maintain employee records, uphold compliance standards, and strengthen payroll operations as the organization grows. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and hands-on experience managing payroll and benefits processes across a multi-state workforce.
Job Responsibility
Administer end-to-end payroll for hourly and salaried staff on recurring pay schedules, ensuring wages are processed correctly and delivered on time
Update and maintain employee payroll records for hires, departures, transfers, compensation changes, deductions, and garnishment activity in coordination with HR
Review payroll transactions and perform reconciliations related to general ledger activity, benefit deductions, tax withholdings, banking entries, and employer contributions
Apply federal, state, and local payroll requirements by monitoring tax obligations, wage and hour rules, worker classification standards, unemployment reporting, and court-ordered deductions
Support quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including tax submissions, W-2 preparation, 1099 processing when needed, annual close tasks, and audit documentation
Track developments in payroll legislation across applicable jurisdictions and recommend procedural updates to reduce risk and maintain compliance
Collaborate with HR and finance leaders to refine payroll workflows, document standard procedures, and strengthen internal controls that improve accuracy and scalability
Assist employees with payroll and benefits questions by providing clear, timely guidance on deductions, enrollments, and related records
Contribute to benefits administration by helping coordinate enrollments, changes, and ongoing data accuracy between payroll and benefit plans
Requirements
Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll for both hourly and salaried employees
Working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, payroll taxes, and wage and hour compliance requirements
Experience supporting payroll volumes within an environment of approximately 101 to 500 employees
Familiarity with payroll systems such as UKG Pro and strong overall payroll processing capability
Background in benefits administration, benefits coordination, and compensation-related record management
Strong reconciliation skills with the ability to audit payroll data, deductions, tax withholdings, and related financial records
High level of accuracy, organization, and discretion when handling confidential employee information
